Ogun and Delta in final of cricket event of 18th National Sports Festival | (2012-12-03 )
Ogun and Delta are through to the final of the One Day International (ODI) version of the cricket event of the 18th National Sports Festival, Eko 2012.
In the first semi final played at the TBS oval on Monday, December 3,Delta defeated Lagos by 58 runs.Delta won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 112 runs for 9 wickets in 50 overs. Lagos scored 58 runs all out in 26.3 overs.
In the second semi final played at Unilag pitch,Ogun defeated Rivers by 7 wickets to secure a place in the final.Ogun won the toss and decided to field.Rivers was restricted to 109 runs all out. James Chukwu (Rivers) scored 24 runs off 36 balls. Ogun scored 110 runs for 3 wickets. Afeez Obisesan (Ogun)scored 44 runs not out.
The final is scheduled to be played on Tuesday, December 4, between Ogun and Delta state, at the TBS oval. Third place match is scheduled for Unilag same day, between Lagos and Rivers. Meanwhile,Lagos has lodged a protest against Delta state.
The T20 cricket event of the ongoing festival is scheduled to commence on Thursday, December 6 at three venues- TBS oval,Unilag pitch and Jubril Martins High School pitch.The final comes up on Saturday, December 8 at the TBS Oval.
